Linear Conversations: Between Line and Form

Linear Conversations: Between Line and Form:

There’s something quietly powerful about a line. Before colour, before form fully takes shape, it is the line that begins everything — a gesture, a movement, a thought. At Tarun Art Gallery’s group exhibition, Linear Conversations: Between Line and Form, this simple idea unfolds into an engaging visual dialogue across artists, mediums, and sensibilities.

Walking into the gallery feels less like entering a white cube and more like stepping into an ongoing conversation. Each work seems to speak in its own rhythm — some whispering through delicate structures, others asserting themselves through bold, expressive marks. Together, they explore how line and form are not just visual tools, but carriers of memory, emotion, and narrative.

The exhibition brings together six contemporary artists — Anup Kumar Chand, Bikash Poddar, Tapan Dash, Goldminson Aimol, Harshh Kumar, and Ishu — whose practices differ widely yet intersect beautifully. Their approaches to linearity range from controlled and architectural to fluid and intuitive. Movement, space, and abstraction recur throughout, creating moments where the works seem to echo one another across the room. It’s this interplay that makes the show feel cohesive while still deeply personal.

As Tarun Sharma, Director of Tarun Art Gallery, reflects, the idea for the exhibition stems from seeing the line as more than a formal device — as the very beginning of thought, emotion, and expression. Each artist approaches line and form differently, shaped by their experiences, materials, and inner worlds. Together, the works create a dialogue that moves beyond individual styles and enters a shared space of inquiry, encouraging viewers to slow down, observe closely, and engage with contemporary art in a more intuitive and meaningful way.

The exhibition preview was held on December 18, 2025, and was inaugurated in the presence of eminent poet and art critic Prayag Shukla and noted art and film critic Vinod Bhardwaj, whose insights added depth to the artistic discourse surrounding the show. The exhibition was previously on view at Tarun Art Gallery, M-7, M Block Market, GK II, New Delhi.
