Confluence: Two Practices, One Journey:
Confluence: Two Practices, One Journey, a joint exhibition by acclaimed contemporary
artists Anup Kumar Chand and Shubhra Chand, opened on 4 June 2026 at the Art Gallery,
Kamaladevi Complex, India International Centre (IIC), Max Mueller Marg, New Delhi. The
exhibition was inaugurated by Shri Baijayant Panda, National Vice President, BJP, and
Member of Parliament from Kendrapara, Odisha, in the presence of eminent personalities
from the Indian art world.
Curated by artist and curator Archana Singh and co-curated by Arpit Sharma (Curator,
TAG), the exhibition celebrates the artistic journeys of two artists whose lives and practices
have evolved together over the years. What began in the corridors of an art college grew into a
shared creative journey rooted in dedication, struggle, and an unwavering commitment to art.
Anup Chand’s paintings draw upon the rich traditions of Odisha’s folk art. His iconic tiger, at
once playful and vulnerable, has evolved into a metaphor for contemporary human existence,
reflecting themes of identity, loneliness, and resilience. In contrast, the works of Shubhra Chand
evoke a profound stillness that stretches from the earth to the cosmos. Her abstract paintings,
often influenced by Buddhist philosophy, invite contemplation through forms such as the lotus,
mandala, eternal knot, and the recurring peepal leaf motif.
The exhibition is presented in association with Tarun Art Gallery, M Block Market, Greater
Kailash-II, New Delhi, the exhibition remains open from 4–7 June 2026, between 11:00 AM and
7:00 PM.
